ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver - Dive BuddysCourse Overview: After your five dives, you'll be more experienced, feel more comfortable in the water and simply enjoy diving more because you better understand the underwater environment. All five dives may be counted as the first dive of the corresponding specialty.

Prerequisites: To become an Advanced Open Water Diver, you must be at least 12 years old and certified as an Open Water Diver or have an equivalent rating. "Equivalency" is defined as proof of an entry-level scuba certification with a minimum of four open water training dives.

Course Activities: You will perform a total of 5 dives under the supervision of an instructor. You are required to perform two Adventure Dives, the Deep Adventure Dive (a dive deeper than 60 feet) and Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive for certification. You can choose the remaining 3 dives (for a total of 5 dives). You will read the appropriate chapter in the Adventures in Diving Manual (included in course price) and complete the knowledge reviews located at the end of the chapter for each dive that you perform. You will get to use your new knowledge for each type of dive on the dive performed under the supervision of an instructor. (Note - not all dives are available at all dive sites)

Adventure Dives available to divers 12 years old and older: Adventure Dives available to divers 15 years old and older:
  • Classroom: There is one classroom session. The classroom session will cover the chapters for each of the specialties in the Adventures in Diving Manual, review your knowledge review answers and prepare you for each of the open water dives. Not all dives are available at all locations. This portion of the course covered by PADI eLearning course.
  • Independent Study: Read the chapters for each of the specialties in the Adventures in Diving Manual and complete the knowledge reviews located at the end of each chapter. You will need to turn in the knowledge reviews prior to certification or provide a copy of an Adventure Log signed by an appropriate instructor if you have already completed a dive in connection with your Adventure Diver certification. This portion of the course covered by PADI eLearning course.
  • Open Water Dives: The 5 open water dives are done at an area lake/scuba park or on a dive trip. Not all dives are available at all locations.
Forms Required: Students need to complete the three (3) forms: Liability Release, Statement of Understanding, and Medical Statement prior to entering the water.

Materials/Equipment Required: Adventures in Diving Manual, Adventures in Diving DVD, Surface Signaling Device, and Whistle (included in course price). Recommended: Nav-Finder.

Length of Course: If you have read each of the chapters in the Adventures in Diving Manual, completed the knowledge reviews prior to coming to class then the classroom will last approximately 1 hour depending upon class size.

Course Dates: This course is offered on any lake weekend or any dive trip.
